Rules update
September 25, 2026 rules update
This update adds a rule for a creature that attacks a player alone (a new 506.6) and renumbers the rules after it: the former 506.6 and 506.7 become 506.7 and 506.8, and 506.7a–g become 506.8a–g (six of those match word for word; three changed only the rule numbers they refer to). New entries: 701.71 (with 701.71a) and 111.10x; 205.3g was revised; 205.4c and 509.1b differ only in formatting. Below are the cards in our current card data whose text matches either the 'attacks alone' or 'attacks a player alone' wording, grouped by whether they appear in this build's list of fully modeled cards.
What it changes at the table
Attacking one player alone is now its own thing (506.6)
Before this update the rules only defined attacking alone: one creature, the only attacker anywhere. The new 506.6 defines attacking a player alone: the only creature attacking that player, even while your other creatures attack someone else. The old 506.6 and 506.7 slide down to 506.7 and 506.8.
Why it matters at a four-player table: cards written “attacks a player alone” (Yuriko, Blade of the Mighty; Jiang Yanggu, Alone) now trigger when you send one creature at each opponent. Cards written “attacks alone”, exalted included, did not change: they still need a single attacker in total.
Gotchas: two creatures attacking two different players each attack a player alone, and neither attacks alone. A creature attacking a planeswalker or a battle is not attacking a player, so it never attacks a player alone.
In this build: the “attacks alone” cards are modeled (25 of the 95 in our card data are fully simulated, exalted among them). The two “attacks a player alone” cards are not fully modeled yet, so they play as printed bodies with that text flagged at the table.
Heartwood is a new predefined artifact token (205.3g, 111.10x)
Heartwood joins the artifact types beside Treasure, Food and Clue. A Heartwood token is a red and green artifact that taps for red or green mana.
Why it matters: it counts as an artifact for anything that counts, taps or sacrifices artifacts, and it is a repeatable mana source. Unlike Treasure it is not sacrificed to make mana, so it stays on the battlefield; unlike Treasure it only makes red or green.
Gotcha: a card that says Treasure means Treasure. A Heartwood is a different artifact type and never counts as one.
In this build: three cards in our card data make Heartwood tokens (Aerid Konstrari, Tenured Tethermage, Hungering Puppetbeast). None is fully modeled yet, and the token is not in the engine's token list yet.
Empower Jace N is a new keyword action (701.71)
Empower Jace N gives you a Jace planeswalker token if you have none, then puts N loyalty counters on a Jace planeswalker token you control. The token starts from zero loyalty and carries a surveil ability and a card-draw ability.
Why it matters: many cards feed one shared, growing planeswalker instead of each making its own. The counters land as part of the same action, so a brand-new token does not die at zero loyalty in between.
Gotchas: if you already control a Jace planeswalker token you never get a second one from this action; the counters go on the one you choose. It is attacked like any planeswalker, and it can use only one loyalty ability per turn like any planeswalker.
In this build: 35 cards in our card data use empower Jace. None is fully modeled yet, so they play as printed bodies with that text flagged at the table.
Cards in our current card data with matching text
These are wording matches in a local card-data snapshot, not a claim that the rules update changes how any card plays. 97 cards match; 25 of them are fully simulated in this build.
